Able Seaton Port is a major hub for the offshore wind industry, being the loadout port for the huge, Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm. The Able Seaton Port project involved the deepening and widening of the Seaton Channel (River Tees) to - 9.5 m CD and to a width of 85 m. This was initially to provide non-tidal access for the DEME Offshore jack-up vessel ‘Innovation’ which was busy constructing Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm at the time.
What we do
Challenge
Solution
We successfully completed the deepening of the access channel with the trailing suction hopper dredgers ‘Reynaert’ and ‘Scheldt River’, and backhoe dredger ‘Peter the Great’, eventually dredging 711,000 m³ of material.
Our scope included:
- Capital dredging of firm clay and boulder clay
- Maintenance dredging of soft clay and silt
- Dredge areas - Seaton Channel, holding basin and adjacent to the quay walls
